What about Countermeasures? Can they trick or fool the Polygraph?
Countermeasures are attempted by people with the intent of changing the outcome of an exam by deceiving or tricking the Polygraph and examiner into giving false or incorrect readings and findings.
Our advice? Don’t try them. Today’s modern Computerized Polygraph has taken countermeasure detection WAY past the ‘tack in the shoe’ trick. Today’s Polygraphs are equipped with motion sensors that will detect ANY movements of ANY part of the body including the mouth, tongue, jaw and facial and sphincter muscles, etc.
Any attempts by the examinee to influence the outcome of the test by ANY bodily movements or actions will register on the computer in real time and be seen by the examiner. You will be caught!
If the person caught trying to use countermeasures is 'lucky,' they will get a warning, and a new test will be given. If they are 'not lucky' or if they persist in their actions, the examination will be stopped. The Polygraph testing software used by the computer will register and record the examinee's actions and will show a status of ‘Non-Cooperation.' The computer results and all test recordings will be documented and given to the requesting party as a FAIL. This action will very likely have a profoundly negative impact on an application for employment, legal or other issues for which the Polygraph had been scheduled.
